It has been quite some time since I have visited the list. I do so now to
ask for opinions. I am prepared to become even more frustrated by doing so.
Perhaps I am just a glutton for punishment.

Some here may recall my TR6.......

Link: White, 1976, CF55032U, it was completely original emphasis on "was."

This car needed not-a-lot of work to make it excellent. The link above has
pictures showing the real problem - the engine bay. When the project started,
I posted some of the progress as it began to take on a life of its own. I
believe that it was Robert Lang who suggested to me that I was on the "slippery
slope to a full frame off restoration." Nostradamus would be proud.

Over the last year of being lead further and further down this slope I am now
faced with the following dilemma.

I had a car that was unique, completely original - and I mean completely,
even the tires that to this day remain free of checks and have good tread given
their 30,000 miles. I had originally intended to maintain in the highest
degree this originality. I have allowed for the exact opposite to occur. I
feel this to be shame on me. Oh well, get over it.

My question now; since the car is now in the state of restoration that most
any car of most any condition can be taken to.......does it really make much
difference on how "original" to factory I restore the vehicle? Specifically,
color.

I do not intend to sell the car, yet, I feel compelled to retain as much cash
value as possible.

Since the car will never be truly "original" again, I have started to change
my attitude to "let's make this car say "wow." This may include higher quality
interior, different paint and wheels.

Am I nuts? Is BLACK just simply taboo?

If I do change color, I have been advised to stick with factory colors.
Well, then I will stay with the original white. But in my new "attitude" I am
considering options. Black (considering the amount of chrome items) is a most
striking color if I want it to say "wow"

  Thoughts?

  Thanks,

  Scott
