Leaving a Nascar race

I can't for the life of me understand why everyone wants to leave
NOW after a major race and endure the pain and frustration of a
forced direction cattle drive.

My preference is to kick back, do a tailgate cookout AFTER
the race while everyone is flipped out trying to get away. When
the dust settles after an hour or sometimes two, I can then pack
up and have a much more normal drive homeward. That is how
it has worked for me at Michigan International, anyway...

Hey folks,

For those of you who choose to attend Nascar Winston Cup events, how long
does it take you to get out of the parking lot after the event? I'm curious
is the debacle I endure twice a year at Atlanta Motor Speedway is unique or
par for the course. The GA Hwy Patrol and AMS "Parking Officers" directed me
on a 15 mile drive that took over 4 hours and led an entire lot of cars out
into the middle of nowhere.

Autocross content - Atlanta region used to autocross in the North Turn lot
of AMS - the asphalt surface doesn't look as good as it used to.
