Is this the same plastic grille as the squaretail spits?  If so, there is a 
good chance
that it will stand up to paint remover.  Put a drop on the back somewhere and 
see what happens.

I know what you mean about sloppy paint jobs!
For the last decade I have been trying to remove the last traces of red paint 
from
the vinyl panel behind the seats, the vinyl trim on the
wheel wells,  and the vinyl capping piece around the rear edge of
the cockpit.

The vinyl stands up just fine to point remover, but the paint seems to have 
diffused into
the plastic, and doesn't all come out...
