Yes.  Now, take a deep breath.  No one is going to get hurt.  Put down 
your wrenches, nice and slow.  That's it. 

Now, put the keys on the floor.   Good. Slide them over to me.  
Excellent.  Everyones going to be OK.  I'll see that no one hurts your 
LBC.  Just sign this release form on the back of your title.  Everytthing 
is going to be just fine.

Wow, that woke me up. I have seen the conversions (they always make me 
cry), and none ever looked better than stock.  When was an E 
underpowered, anyway.

Seriously, the Rover V-8 is a good choice for doing what you want.  Also, 
I think Triumph makes a 6 that might fit in your car ;-)  I seriously 
doubt you will save any money in the process.  My recommendations are

1) If you swap, keep the original engine/tranny!!!  Store it properly, so 
that when you sell the car, at least it has a chance of getting back as 
it once was.

2) Donate it to me!

3) Expect the cost of a swap to be 1.5x as expensive as your "worst case" 
estimate.
