The greatest reason to make the change from canister to spin-on filter is
the ease of changing the filter.  Because the TR6 was designed as a RHD,
removing the canister oil filter is easy (I'm told) on them, but as anyone
who's had the pleasure of changing the filter on a LHD car, its a miserable
exercise.  Unless you're into concours appearance, go for it.  
I added the rocker oil feed line kit as well which is also very easy and is
claimed to be of great benefit in increasing oil flow to the valve gear.
BTW, Peter, Obsolete Automotive lists the spin-on adapter at C$99 and often
has it on sale - most recently for around C$70.
