Absolutely correct, the od draws its oil from a small sump area that is
replenished by oil from the gearbox, how much damage will depend on how well
the filter is working, but yes eventually the od will go with the gearbox, I
would suggest you do the od yourself, I think you need much less specialist
tools for the A type od than for the gearbox, if you only do a strip clean
and rebuild all you would need is a gasket set, if you start changing
bearings etc then you need the gismo for the bearing preload on the tail
assembly, Also most Gearbox warranty failure would be hard to argue if you
re use the dirty od!
Does the TR4 Box have od or at least an od mainshaft?
Check with ORS www.overdrive-repairs.co.uk I don't know how shipping would
affect any deal but they are quite reasonable on price and they remake
nearly all the bits themselves from/with original tooling!
Have used them and service is good, and spoken with them at shows and they
seem to know nearly all the variations available from memory, so can talk
about different installations etc! NFI blah blah!
