I recently bought an "A" type OD for my TR250 and an MGB LH OD from John
Esposito (www.quantumechanics.com). He was very clear to use 30W
non-detergent in both these OD transmissions. He said the heavier gear
oil was too thick and would damage the OD unit in cold weather, and
detergent oil would foam, also damaging the OD unit. I understood his
recommendations for 30W non-detergent only applied to OD transmissions.

I could not find Castrol 30W non-detergent locally so he is getting some
for me.
