Hi Terry:
The foam strip is a good idea, but you have to be sure that it is closed-cell
foam. I use a 1"x3/16" strip labelled as "Truck cap seal". It's very
"pudding-like" and slick on one side with a peel-off sticker on the other.
It's marketed for fitting between the top of a pickup truck bed and the
fibreglass tops that are sold aftermarket. Very good for taking up the gap.
Because it's closed-cell it will not absorb water. Open cell weatherstrip can
let the water in partway and will start to rust out the edge of the floor.

I've seen discussion on this, but it seems like years now. What is the
recommended product for sealing water from coming up from underneath through
the transmission tunnel where it bolts to the floor and firewall? Is it a
ropy substance or brush on?
