I have at home a rear hub from a TR6 with a stub axle that snapped in half.  
This was due to a casting flaw and is quite rare and the only way to make sure 
it won't happen is to disassemble the hubs and have the parts magnafluxed.

On the other hand a friend of mine lost a rear wheel on a TR3 because someone 
tack welded the wheel studs to the flange and they broke.  When he had the 
other side checked at least one stud there had already snapped, too.
