I have had a similar experience to this John. The 'output' from the motor is by a drive cable which is within a flexible outer cable. Both ends of this outer cable have to be firmly clamped in place.

The older type does have a park switch, but it's not integrated into the motor - it's the little white (or white-ish, depending on age!) box that sits on top of the motor, kind of next to the cylind
