I got out my trusty timing light today in preparation for timing the BT7 but there doesn't seem to be any marks on the wheel except the TDC mark. I know that it is supposed to be set at 15 deg. at sp

When I cleaned off my pulley recently I discovered a small v shaped notch that was hidden under paint and dirt. The TDC notch was a square cut. Try cleaning all the paint and dirt and you might just

Watch out using a timing light on a Healey. I did and my timing was way off. The advance kicks in at such a low rpm that it is hard to get it low enough for a true reading. I think it needs to be dow

James, to the best of my knowledge there is only one timing mark on a BT7....TDC. I will be corrected if I'm wrong. To set up the timing stroboscopically you will need an advance timing light. They a

Have never seen but one mark on the pully, but my experience with engines is not as extensive as many on this list. I would bet the second mark was placed by a PO. Use a dig external tach if possibl

That's correct Andy, 600 rpm is what's called for and the car tach most likely is not accurate down that low. Use a digital tach like what is on an advance strobe. The light across the points when st

If your carbs are setup correctly, so that it won't start without a choke, you can use the timing light at cranking speed which is low enough to set static advance. The other way is to set maximum ad

At what RPM is a BJB fully advanced? Is 38 degrees realistic? I was under the inpression the max advance was closer to 30-32 degrees. Gary Hodson

Given that there are several variables involved, such as fuel grade, temperatures, altitudes, & driver actions, 38 degrees is a good starting point. If you experience pinging, obviously back it off

Not rough at all. It only takes a couple of seconds to get a reading. Just rev it & read. Have you never blipped the throttle to 5000. Knowing the actual maximum advance reading is the most importan

Hi Reinhart, The 100 has a single small notch in the rear flange of the crank pulley which lines up with an arrow pressed into the timing cover when the engine is at TDC. The notch is about 1.5 mm wi
