Rather than extending this discussion further, I'll just say that if
your statements are true, I must place a higher priority on my
relationship with my wife and my son and my financial stability than
"all 900+ of the autocrossers that competed" this year that you are
speaking for.  

I will not make such a generalization myself, I know better.  Everyone's
circumstances are different.  Different "limits" on vacation (mine is 5
days for this entire year), different family situations (I don't like to
be away from my family, and couldn't bring them with me), and wildly
different budgets (mine consists of enough money to buy a set of street
tires and a year's worth of entry fees... plus maybe an average of less
than $500 per year for performance upgrades).
