Paul, once again -- this wasn't a tight corner.  I did it in 4th gear
at about 70 mph without lifting.  It was a lane-change maneuver, and
if you set it up right, it was pretty smooth and easy.

I think the rest of your post was more or less on the mark, but please
try to refrain from commenting authoritatively on issues you can't
possibly know because you weren't there.
