I have been known as being a cheapskate when it comes to my hobbies. That
is why I own the Rustiest 67 2000 in existence. That having been said, I
have done some horsetrading to get some of the stuff that I have, I have
bought used from a LOT of places and I have bought new from a few of the
vendors. Although Dann at Rallye has long been known as having the highest
prices for parts, I have bought from him. At first, it was because I did
not know that there was anyone else. Later it was because he had what I
needed and had it advertised at what I thought was a reasonable price. Some
of his stuff is a bit high. Personally, I think that $600 for an aircleaner
is insane. But then again I paid $300 for a used one, so was it really? I
realize that Dann and the other vendors need to make a profit to sustain the
business, but I also think that there are times when the profit margin is a
little high. Those times I don't buy (or if I already did, I lick my wounds
and go elsewhere next time)
Unlike some folks, I WILL use used parts. I have been blessed in finding a
TON of NOS stuff for my 1500. I will not spend the time to do that for the
2000. Although it is more desireable, I can see from here that my
daughter's college fund is not going to be spent on a toy, and that is what
it would take to put new in as many places as possible. I have no aversion
to sweat equity, and the hunt is sometimes more enjoyable than the the find
for me.
