Smaller tow vehicles will work fine if they have a good HP to weight
ratio. Ford Rangers, Chevy s-10's etc., etc., with a v-6 will do the
job. BUT they are not as stable of a platform like a larger tow
vehicle. In other words you can feel the trailer try to push you around
during cornering and braking. I use a F-250 as well. You almost don't
know the trailer is behind you. The tow vehicle weight can be very
important if you don't plan on using trailer brakes. Your trailer
tongue weight should be at least 10% of the towed weight. So be careful
selecting the right type of reciever hitch as well. One that will be
rated for your application. My trailer is a double axle with electric
brakes on one. I had it built for my needs so it weighed in at 1400
lbs. I had 3600 lb axles installed. It gives my TR-6 a smooth ride.
And it can carry my 4800 lb Caterpillar tractor! Too stiff of an axle
rating can cause the load to bounce on the trailer. This is a bad
thing! I would never consider using mobile home axles.
Manual or Automatic???? My truck has a manual but if I did it over
again I think I would go to the automatic transmission...turbo
diesel...high back captains chairs...extended cab...3000 channel CB
