Thanks for your comments. I should take a picture of it, and forward it
to you to take a look at and compare.
Perhaps the fan is doing it's job, but
age or build up in cooling system is the culprit. Although the PO said he had
flushed the rad just prior to me taking possession..... and Bob Yule had done
a flow test on the cooling system after an engine rebuild and everything
looked good, flow rate wise.
I think I'm going to take Steve Byers suggestion
and do a test on my gauge.

You probably don't have the 6
blade Nock fan. This fan moves as much air at idle as the old 4 blade fan
moves at ~3,000 rpm... it move a great deal of air at all speeds.

Bob, I think it is actually a combination of better build
quality/material
and a slightly more aggressive fan blade angle (Angle may
actually be the same
but less flex under load). Of course the originals were
4 blades, the
Denis Welch is a 5 blade plastic (I was VERY disappointed with
this one for the cost) and the flex fan (Moss) and Nock fans are both 6
blade.
Having all four of them side by side the Nock fan just feels more
substantial. i.e. not quite as light or flexible.
