Enough Zenith bashing!!! When they are rebuilt properly (remember, the
youngest on an MGB - recent repros not included - is 17 years old) and
set up properly, they work quite well! Just yesterday, we had a 77B on
test, fitted with a rebuilt Z-S, new catalytic converter, fresh tune-up,
etc. Not only did it run nicely, our smog machine said it was producing
Zero emissions! That's right, no hydrocarbons, no carbon monoxide. Zero
at 2,500 r.p.m., zero at idle!

Thinking our machine had broken, we took the car next door to a proper
smog inspection station (with the California-mandated,
mega-thousand-dollar test machine) and their machine confirmed zero
emissions! And this on an engine that has 108,351 miles on it......

It starts, idles and drives nicely. Obviously, less all-out power than an
early B but still, I believe this experience suggests that a Z-S carb
does not have to be consigned to the paperweight category.....
