  If I just wanted power across the RPM band, had the car and the $$ in
hand to make the choice between theblower or the V8 conversion, I'd go
for the V8 hands-down.  The REAL downside to running a blower at high
enough boost pressure to increase the power output 50 - 60 %  is the
added wear and tear on the engine, not to mention the added stress on
the stock B drive train to harness that power.  All this means more
frequent teardowns to keep the beast alive.  That means added costs.  It
ain't just the initial price, boys 'n girls, it's the maintenance too. 
Been there, done that.
