Probably because Nylon was yet invented when the
MGB was designed !!!!!!!!!!!! The first time I saw Nylok
nuts was on a car designed/built in the late 70's, I 
can't remember seeing any on any car built earlier.

The reason you have a NyloK nut is probably because a 
previous owner fitted it, I doubt MG used any on the 
cars as they came from the factory.
