Folks - had a problem yesterday w/ my 76 spitfire that has me baffled.
After degreasing the suspension components and spraying them off with water,
I went for a ride and the temp. quickly shot up to the 3/4 mark. Turned
around parked in the driveway and the temp went down a little, between 1/2
and 3/4 marks. Took off the rad cap while idling and noticed that there was
fluid to the top of the rim, but didn't appear to be moving.

A little background: I have completely flushed the rad and block. This was
done about a month ago when I noticed brown fluid. Fluid is staying green
since. The overheating as described above happened before, but not since
flushing the system. Also, I notice a low growl sound occasionally from the
motor. There doesn't seem to be a set time and it appears to go away when I
remove the oil filler cap.

Questions: 1)could the over spray from when I was rinsing off the
suspension have done something to the ignition system to cause the over
heating ; 2) could it be the timing; 3) could it be the water pump
