If you read further on in Piggott's book you will see that he mentions that
there is speculation that some time in '64 the wood dash became standard
equip. I can vouch for that. When I arrived at Coventry and they brought
out my car (CT 33118L) it had a wood dash. Since I was going to do Europe on
$5 a day, my immediate reaction was "UH! OH! How much is that going to cost?
The answer was - " Nothing, sir, it is standard equipment." That was the
2nd week in Jun 64 but the commission number and my Brit Heritage
documentation show my car was built about a month before. Also check out the
latter part of is book for the dates when the cars were built. That will give
you a time frame in which to place your car. Remember that the commission
numbers for the TR4's went from CT 1 or some low number to about CT 42000 or
43000 in 1965. Sorry but my book is not available right now.

The seats in my car are original. Seems that at first (and again if my
memory serves me correctly, Piggott tells the story) the seats were the same
as in the TR3's. Then they moved to an interim seat, which mine are, and
finally to a later (3rd)seat - both of which are not any taller - this third
seat might have carried over to the 4A's. Anyway, Piggott has the story and
pictures all there.

Hope this helps. If I can be of further help (my car is as original as I can
keep it) - feel free.
