Phil-
You ask about putting a TR6 engine in your GT6...

I feel that Tony and I ought to have a standard answer that could be posted
to the group every coupla months, just to cover this question.

Here's my take on this so far...
Use the GT6 rear engine plate and the GT6 clutch and you'll have no trouble
with mounting the trans. The GT6 unit is definetly marginal with increased HP
and torque. The TR6 trans will fit fairly easily but not with an OD on it
The TR6 and GT6+ blocks are identical, so no problem there...However you can
not use the TR6 pan as it will touch the frame and vibrate like a big dog, so
you must use the GT6 pan. Unfortunately this pan will not clear the rod
throws on the first coupla rods, so some careful massaging with a
Thor no. 1 hammer is needed in these areas.
Now for the silly bits...
The TR6 manifolds and carbs will not clear the hood by about 1.5" on the
front carb. Other than major (ugly) body mods, the only way to get the carbs
low enough is to use the GT6 manifold (this can be modified to accept the
1.75: carbs). Now one would think that the port spacing on the 69 GT6 and the
69TR6 would be the same, but guess again. The 69 GT6 manifold has the same
spacing as the 72 and later TR6 head. This means that you must use a 72 or
later engine, or at least head, so that the manifolds will mount up. Now if
you use the 72 or later engine, the crank is just a little bit longer at the
rear, and if you assemble everything with that crank, you can't disengage the
clutch (you wouldn't be the first to discover this after the fact). SO, that
leaves two possibilities. Either use an early crank in the late engine, or
use an early block with the late head.

CONFUSED ????

I know, it all seemed so simple.
