I see you have a '79 Spitfire, like mine.  Which means you have a 
thermostatically
controlled fan switch, which is what I have.  I took out the old one (was broken
anyway), and replaced it with a cooler switch.  In other words, the fan switch
is turned on sooner than before.  Say, at 180' instead of 200'.  Oh yeah, I also
installed a 160' thermostat as well.  Before pulling the motor to begin my 
rebuild/
restore project, the car would run just fine in traffic with that fan kicking 
on sooner
and the cooler thermostat in place.  Not to mention, synthetic oil will help the
cooling somewhat.

Seeking opinions from the list:

My Spitfire usually runs hot anyway and during the summer months 
(northern Virginia) it seems every hotter. The temp gauge is usually 
closed to the red line but not past the normal mark. I am planning on
