First, I will maintain that I did not do an engine conversion - it was a
body swap.  In earlier days, I used to autocross, and an engine swap was
a one-way ticket into the modified classes.  Since I just replaced the
GT6 tub with a Spitfire tub, and the rest of the car is basically stock,
I wasn't competitive in CMod.  There was also this rule that said that
... for vehicles which are no longer being manufactured, you can replace
any item with any other item the manufacturer has built as long as the
original mounting points are not modified, the parts are stock on both
'from' and 'to' vehicles, and some other qualifications.  I felt that a
body swap allowed me to run in Stock or Prepared class.  (for some
reason, though, people didn't follow my interpretation of the rules).

Why did I do it?  I had an accident, and by the time I had the car back
and was ready to repair the damage, the rest of the tub was shot.  It
needed $5000 to redo the tub and all.  I had a GT6MKIII bonnet, I found
an 81 Spitfire tub for $150, and the rest is history.

Would I do it again?  Yes - the car is great, and turns heads all the
time.  But I have plans to rebuild another GT6+ from almost
crusher-fodder into a stock classic.
