Thread-topic: starter motors
I run one of the high-Torque starter in my TR6.
It works great! For two reasons:
First it spins fast and sure each time.
Second, I have a few bad spots on my ring gear. With the old Lucas starter
there were times when the drive gear would hit one of the bad spots and not
engage. I had to rock the car to move the ring gear and it would start. With
the High-Torque I have never had a problem. Also it is less likely to cause
bad spots, because the drive gear doesn't begin to turn until it is fully
extended. this puts it into contact with the ring gear before turning rather
than banging into it while spinning.
