My point about Monaco and Pittsburgh was that they are good examples of
successful events for pre-1967. I strongly believe that a vintage
organization can have high quality, well attended events without having to
pander to anyone who owns a two-year-old now obsolete racer, be it NASCAR or
IMSA type.
.Because of the drastic differences in cornering ability, aerodynamics,
straight line speed and size and weight of "modern cars", they should not be
grouped with older cars. If these cars are allowed to run, they take up
track time, which reduces the amount of time for everyone else. As has
already been pointed out in this string, relatively few stock cars come out,
whereas there are always 20-30 pre-1967 cars. Who suffers from the efforts
to extract a few more entry fees by waiving or expanding the rules, to the
extent that SVRA becomes a "run-what-you-brung" organization?
I still believe that if you have a set of rules that have worked for almost
20 years, as does the SVRA, then you don't need to throw them all away to
attract a few Corvette Challenge cars or a handful of last years' NASCAR
racers.
