I think the main reason for replacing the helmet on a regular basis is that
the non-resiliant lining compresses overe time, so the helmet that fit
tightly when new becomes loose. However, this is probably more a matter of
amount of use rather than mere age. I use mine 30 to 50 hours a year and in
5 years it has grown a size. However, I, too, have a new Bell Sport II
helmet and it does fit very tightly around the cheeks. Glasses go in
eventually, but it's not a good idea to start putting one's helmet on at the
one minute signal. I had a second set of clear glasses made, bifocals with
small reading lenses, large and ugly overall shape, and strong plastic bows.
It inserts more easily than my fashionable wire trifocals, and I don't have
the line between top and middle lenses across my instruments (lie-down
formula car seat).
