Even if the competitor had been on borrowed time, if he had been accepted for 
the race and the car was the same as it had been when he'd run it before, 
IMHO the time to give him the boot (if ever) would be as of the _following_ 
event.

I've seen the attitude that seems to stem from some belief that allowing a 
car to run when you don't think he should will somehow sully the whole event. 
This ain't Formula 1, and the heavens won't come tumbling down ('fiat 
justicia ruat coelum' for any legal buddies out there) if one 'illegal' car 
is allowed to run a race.
