Not me, although I do plan on doing both the "good" (tri-y) cast iron
manifolds that I have and the Stahl header. I think Jet Hot has a place
in Tulsa or OK City.

Swain Tech is supposedly superior to Jet Hot, uses ceramic technology
developed for the space shuttle I think. Both companies get around $150
per piece, AFAIK.

As far as the header vs OEM manifold debate goes, the whole situation is
much more complex that either piece by itself. Either will work well with
a systems approach where the carbs, cam, head, pistons and exhaust are
designed to work together. Rarely, if ever, can you change a single
component and see big gains. In fact, with objective testing, you might
actually see peak loses. As a general rule, headers on an otherwise stock
motor will hurt low end. One of the biggest reasons is that they're too
big (tubing diameter) and that tends to kill low end gas flow. Most are
at least 1 5/8 which may be too big for a street driven small block Chevy
or Ford V-8. The Stahl header I have is
1 3/8 and I'd only use it for a seriuos auto-x or road race motor.

Something else to consider is that what worked well on one motor may not
give you the same gains on another. This past year the SCCA finally
allowed running the L-20b in addition to the the L-16 and L-18 in the
early (real!?) 510. From what I've seen and heard the really hot 510s are
still running the smaller motors because they can run at a lighter weight
(1.05 lb/cc) and the bigger motors haven't been developed to produce as
much power and torque as the smaller one.

Don't misunderstand me, these are not your garden garage built motors,
but units from Rebello, Potter, folks like that, and depending on how
much you want/can afford to go, the price can easily push $10K.

FWIW,
Ron
