Randy Williams 43 married to wife Cindy (29 and holding) for 19 years.
Two sons Colin 16 and Shawn 14. I grew up in the Detroit area.
After highschool I worked in warehousing from 1977 to 1991. Then a move to
Peachtree City, GA. from 1991 to 1996. I worked some in warehousing then a
bakery and finally worked in a large shop that did CNC sheet metal work.
Well, it's time to move again this time to Franklin, TN. 1996 to present. Did
some CNC sheet metal work then moved on to work in the Hot Stamping field
applying graphics to pen and pencils. My current position is as a Setup Tech
for CPS Corp. here in Franklin.
CPS is part of the American Greeting Corp. Which is the largest gift wrap
supplier
North America or so I'm told
Well, my love of cars came from my Grandfather and my Dad. Dad did a fair
amount of drag racing in the 50's and early 60's.While Dad worked for GM
during the day at night there was a steady procession of GTO's,SS
Chevelle's,L-88 Vette's, 30's Packard's, Buicks, Chevrolet's and even a few
Hemi's.So by time I was ready to start driving I had been able to help out at
grandpa's shop for quite a few years. My first car was a 67 Malibu that Dad
helped swap in a 302 and a 350 turbo. And yes I did some street racing on
Telegraph Road though I never was much for going to Woodard Ave. In the late
70's I started going to the Drag races with my Dad and two brothers after a
long absence. Well, I will openly admit that I will never make a good drag
racer as I can't seem to find a sweet spot on the tree.So this left me
looking for a way to enjoy the thrill of speed. As luck would have it I
spotted an ad in the paper while living near Atlanta. It said something about
racing on an airstrip.MMMMMMMM this could be fun I thought so I called the
number posted and that was the first time I talked to John Beckett.Well I did
not make it to the Moltrie meet but I did go out and buy a Monza
so I could start building a car to compete with.OOpps time to move again.
Well, lets fast forward a few years I still have a Monza (different car) and
have been trying to sell it and a bunch of old Vega speed parts. My plan was
to start on a motorcycle powered lakester but not so sure now with my two
sons getting near college age.
I still enjoy going to Maxton without a racecar. After 3 years I have made
friends that I hope last a life time. The fact is I enjoy doing volunteer
work for the ECTA. I've worked everywhere at the track (starter, timing
tower,shut down) and I get a great satisfaction from helping so other's can
set records.
I would like to thank John,Joe,Lionel and all the others that have a part in
landspeed racing and for letting me share in the fun.
