O.K. Dave...
got any numbers for the required flowrates?

What I'm getting at is, I think most of us may be running a lot more than we
really NEED. This is a SPRINT. A NASCAR qualifying lap. We should be able
to go almost to NHRA extremes. George Bryce only runs only "...one and a
half quarts of less than 0-weight synthetic oil" in Angelle Savoie's 305hp
dragster. And don't forget what Grib said about the NASCAR guys turning
down the pump pressure (and thus the flowrate) for qualifying.

So what flowrates do our various engines need-- at what speeds-- and why?
Can we reduce that flow demand by cooling the oil better? What is the
optimum delta Temp?

Just carries heat off the bearings ??? Yikes Batman I thought that was what
we
were trying to do..In order to run the correct pressure you need the correct
amount of flow in gallons per minute. The flow is controlled by the bearing
clearances vs. pump size and drive speed. The pressure is controlled by the
pump
bypass. The only way to reduce flow is to either make the pressure less or
tighten clearances. This seems simple at first and in a perfect world easy
to
do. just make them 1/2 what they were and reduce the flow by 50%..
Unfortunately
parts distort under load and rod housing bores are not round anymore.
Bearings
are made eccentric for this reason. as far as the cooling goes how long do
you
think your engine will run if low on water or very low on oil at 8000 rpm??

it.....volume only needs to be enough to lubricate at max RPM....any more
just carries heat off the bearings...hmmmmm...wonder how much 12v dc (or
24v) power req'd.
