I saw a couple of goo-goo-eyed news stories and thought "yeah, right" and
followed up on some research into the proponent and Brown's gas... OK - it
was about as simple as I thought. Break the bond in H2O and you get, viola,
2 Hydrogens and 1 Oxygen. Mix 'em and burn 'em and Shazaam! You get power
and water! Imagine that!

Chemical bonds can be pretty darn strong and H2O is set up with a pretty
strong bond. That means it takes a bunch of energy to break each molecular
bond. If you can break up water into Hydrogen and Oxygen with something that
is very efficient (like a nuke plant), or something that is a least fairly
efficient over its life (like a solar cell), then Hydrogen is a decent fuel,
whether you call it Brown's gas (I thought that was what Bernie had, LOL) or
not. When you 'burn' the H2 & O mixture, you get back the energy it took to
split the molecule.

Oh, BTW, it looks like hydrogen is a pretty nasty greenhouse gas and as we
all know; it is pretty tough to keep it in pipes, valves, seals, etc. It
kills most metal, including stainless, over time and catches on fire real,
real easy once it gets out. One of the safest and easiest ways to store and
transport hydrogen is to recombine it with carbon in hydrocarbon chains of
various lengths... ethane, methane, propane, butane, pentane ... gasoline!

I can't wait for the hydrogen economy...
