In the past few days there was a smash up on the Interstate near Raleigh
when an Oldsmobile spun out of control and the big rigs couldn't avoid it
and ended up pinning cars against the gaurdrail. The result was tragic, with
a mother and two children killed. I've not heard what became of the Olds driver.
When I drive the Interstate I like to pick out a 'rabbit' some fool who'll
run in excess of 90mph. I keep him just in sight, and keep my car between
congestions as much as possible. I think modern cars have stretched the gap
between the abilities of the cars and that of the drivers. I find myself
constantly visualizing hazard avoidance, and it has been useful on more than
one occasion. Practice improves performance, even if it is mental.
