Two other points in favour of seat belts:

one, I can personally vouch for the value of a seat belt in keeping control
of the car and avoiding an collision., with my backside securely in the
seat I was able to undertake some prety drastic maneuvering and avoid a
messy collision with a concrete wall. The only thing keeping me in the
seat that day was the seatbelt.

Two: being "thrown clear" is only one alternative, the other alternative is
being thrown about the interior of the vehicle. A recent crash on the
highways up here resulted in 7 deaths when the teenagers in a SUV were all
thrown forward in a head on collision with a drunk driver. Being thrown
about the interior of the vehicle is, IMHO more likely. I don't know about
A'as & B's, but in my MK 1 Midget most of my lower body is beneath the
dash, and I kinda think if I get "thrown clear" it's going to have to be
without my legs, or at least with them bending in the wrong direction.

My sister is a physiotherapist, one of her patients was a human vegetable,
why? Because he didn't quite get thrown clear, instead the door popped
open, and his feet got stuck. His head did a creditable imitation of a
rubber ball across the pavement.

Me, I have three point belts in the Mk1, and the shoulder belt is snug,
I'll ride it out in the cockpit with a few hundred lbs of metal around me,
rather than risk being thrown into a tree, wall, oncoming traffic, or 300
ft down the cliff (I drive a lot of mountain roads).
