I have a shop similar to Allen's, an Exxon station in
Clark, NJ, near my office, that I use for mostly
everything for my Jetta. The owner is a young guy,
about my age, and is customer- and service-oriented.
(Although I don't take the MG there, I would trust him
with it, too, except that I rarely drive the MG to the
office). Point is, I think most of us have a shop that
we trust (and BTW have recommended to friends, the
ultimate sign of trust!). What is too bad is that
these types of places used to be on every corner; now
they are few and far between.

Re: the 'Jiffy Lubes' of the world - they serve their
purpose but by no stretch of the imagination would I
consider those employees 'mechanics'...
