If you read the rules carefully, it offers an "exception". Sections
3.3A and 3.3B seem to contradict each other on this. This issue came up
at Nationals this year when I was working the B-Stock group. Chief of
Grid, Chief of Course and several others looked it up, discussed it and
decided that the Miatae (there were several) with rollbars and harnesses
were all okay, even though the hoop did not clear the helmet as worn. I
believe they did discuss it with the competitors (who were all shocked)
and explained the "greyness" and potential protestability of it.
Of course, that's all from my feeble memory, and I don't know what I'm
talking about anyway.
