Well, if you cannot afford real DOT race tires why bother buying tires at
all? You won't be competitive on the 712s or the Nittos against those who
have V700s or Hoosiers. So you can spend your money, time and effort working
on the driver. Spend the dollars you save on the stop-gap Nittos on a
driver's school or going to more events.

Here's the math (in US dollars)

Plan 1 - buy stop-gap tires this season. Try to afford V700s next season.
Total auto-x budget for this year $500
a) buy tires $250
b) run 10 events $250
Total auto-x budget for next season $750
a) buy v700s $500
b) run 10 events $250

Plan 2 - run current tires this year save for V700s for next season
Total auto-x budget for this season $500
a) run 10 events $250
b) run an Evolution school $200
c) put $50 toward next years budget
Total auto-x budget for next year $750 + $50 from last year = $800
a) buy V700s $500
b) run 14 events $300

I like plan 2 much better. Lot's more seat time. Much more fun.

Regards,
Alan
