I hesitate to enter into the fray, but I'm now totally confused. I
checked half a dozen Factory manuals, incl. GT6/Vitesse, TR4/4A, Spitfire
Mk.IV, and even a Leyland-produced Repair Operations Manual covering
TR4-TR6; all of them clearly state the use of EP 80 or EP 90 weight gear
oil (G.L.4 specification)!

So what gives? Did Standard-Triumph/Leyland-Triumph/BLMC/JRT actually
not have a clue all these years about what was correct for a Triumph
gearbox with OD (just a bit hard to believe ;-))? Or is there a logical
reason why different designs of gearboxes (Triumph v. MG) require
different lubricants?

Seems to me this has been discussed before; does anyone have a summary
of that discussion, or an authoritative answer, lest we create yet another
seemingly endless thread?
