Hi,

Chimin' in, albeit late...

The 18% may be high, but JK Jackson said:

"The biggest HP gain that we got from a basically stock engine was to just
remove the fan. We got 13 horsepower on the dyno."

A further reference from the past - GRM vol. 14 num. 2, Mar/Apr 1997 says:

"7. Remove stock fan and install an electric one. Good for 7 - 9 additional
HP."

So, there you have it - one reference from direct conversation, printed
reference from the same source.

I would say that the idea of 10 HP gain is not out of the question. I would
further say that 12% is possible. Now, if you toss in a super balance job
and then run the Weber DCOE's, I would say that the quoted 13 HP (first
reference) would be possible.

The larger percentage reference that Mr. Thomas referred to I believe was
related to comments regarding earlier TR's, specifically TR4 and TR3
engines. With the lump-o-steel on the front of those motors, I would not be
surprised to see a larger than 13 HP gain.

When I put my car on the dyno, I'll report some numbers. I _think_ I have a
fan _somewhere_ in the garage. ;-)
