I had a similar problem with my GT6 earlier this year. I believe it was due to 
a plugged muffler because I heard a 'bwoof' sound going down the highway one 
day and from then on it was fine (had to replace the muffler shortly after that 
though). There was fur hanging from the tailppipe when I arrived at my 
destination.

Doug,
Wild guess would be a blocked catalytic converter.
