Dean.
Looks like problem solved.
In any event it is not likely that it is the water pump unless an impeller
is gone and that would make a terrible sound. Usually when a pump gives up
it is the seal or bearing with water all over the place and it is fatal.
Lost mine driving from Gualala to Cloverdale at midnight and ended up
spending a cold night with 3 in the JH. We froze and in the morning hitched
a ride in a convertible with no heater and a torn to shreds to. I fixed
the guys heater on the trip to a phone. Just a vacuum hose. Good thing I
had tow insurance. $360.00 and that was in 1979. The obvious thing might
be the thermostat or even a slipping fan belt.
I replaced my stock 3 core radiator with a 4 core. Never over heats now.
