Also, make sure that the mounting bolts for the shock are tight.
I had them loosen up once - made some funny noises.

I'm currently using a mix of motorcycle fork oil, racing motor oil
and a little STP in the shocks on the autocross car.  It seems to
be working pretty well; I put it in about 4 or 5 years ago.

BTW, congrats on the new TR-4 with surrey top.
