Trevor,

I had a 1981 VW Rabbit (Golf) diesel with the mechanical fuel injection.
It was completely different system than the Lucas.  I will have to peruse
my VW manuals to see if the mention any lubricating requirements for the
Bosch metering unit.  Could be they, unlike the Lucas engineers, designed
the moving parts to be lubricated with something other than the fuel being
pumped into the metering unit.

Just like Chris mentioned, I've been stocking up on the lead additives to
pour into my petrol tank.  I have the hardened seat for the exhaust valves,
so only need the lead for the metering unit.
