You are indeed correct. I recall driving my first TR6 (a 74) with AC 
back in the late 70s - in sweltering heat of Mississippi. With tonneau
cover zipped open over driver's seat only, you can drive with top down 
and stay pretty cool from about the armpits down. (doesn't work as 
well if you're carrying a passenger)
