There appears to have been an invitation issued to comment upon the new
VTR policy of restricting technical information to just VTR club members
(paid subscribers).

I thought about the restriction of information overnight. My conclusion
is that I personally feel that the decision is unfortunate but that
since I am no longer a member of that group I have no say in the decision.

I fear that restricting maintenance information will discourage new
people from considering buying a Triumph. Information on these cars is
very spotty and hard to find. My preference is for someone considering
buying their first Triumph to be able to look around the net, learn
about what it takes to keep a TR running and say to themselves "I can do
this" Shops that know anything about Triumphs are few and far between.

Another thing I worry about is the relative TR newbie who buys a basket
case to restore but gives up with the car in a thousand pieces because
they just could not find the information they need to get it back
together. That's why when I researched the use of all the holes in the
bulkhead of a post TS-60000 TR3A I built a web page and posted it to the
web.

I can't even count the long hours I spent researching DCOEs, TR2-4A
cylinder heads, properly setting up webbing lengths for hood sticks,
tool rolls and more then built web pages to share the information with
others. I did it because the information can be hard to find and I just
wanted to help make things a little easier for others. My decision.

I fear that the decision to restrict information is to the detriment of
those considering their first Triumph and to VTR's image as a club.
But that it is the club's decision to make.

On the other hand maybe the restriction of information in the VTR site
will provide impetus for others, myself included, to add additional
content to their own TR web sites.
