Bill,
I'm one that thinks it's a great idea. Even when I had 11 old cars, I had a
modern car. About 2 years ago I bought a used 2002 Mercedes SLK32 AMG. Like
the SLK 230, with the metal folding roof, but 2002 was the first year of SLK
in AMG form. It has 360 HP, 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds with slap type
automatic, leather seats, AC and a fantastic look. Mine's red with black
interior. Out the door in 2002 it was an outrageous price, but I saved
$30000 by buying it used with 17000 miles and a complete warranty.
Everything covered, even the wiper blades. So far it's been perfect, except
for losing the heated seat on the passenger side, which they replaced free.
Bill,
I'm sending you off list a copy of this email with a photo of the MB
attached.

The recently TR4A Project car I bought should be transport sometime around
XMAS. Yeah!!!!

Anyway, I have noticed that some cars that I have never considered before
are starting to look better and get into my affordability range.
Specifically the Mercedes 230SLK, the Jaguar XK8, the Porsche Boxster &
Acura NSX. I have been hoping that the Lotus Elise prices would begin
dropping, but that is not the case yet. Some of the Aston Martin DB7's are
getting lower, but not low enough yet.

Strange as it seems, I have been contemplating getting a modern
car. Now, before the flamers cry blasphemy, I wish to point out that
I have a new job that is unbelievably cool and the car hobby has to
take a back seat for awhile. By an act of providence, I have become
Data Acquisition Systems & Telemetry engineer for Burt Rutan at
Scaled Composites in Mojave. You know, the guy that launched the
first privately funded manned spaceflight. When I should be thinking
about British cars I find myself thinking about work instead. What a
pervert I have become.

Anyone else on the list having the same mental tug of war?
