This subject came up during some conversations during the Summit Point
weekend and I was taken aback to learn that corner workers are not routinely
invited to the track parties. That seems like such an absurd and elitest
(sp?) attitude. I may not be able to do anyhting about the track parties,
but I can certainly see that they are invited to any party that our Group
puts on.
As the Group rep for SVRA's Group 1 (even though I have been officially
told by SVRA that there is no such thing as a Group rep anymore), I have been
successful in organizing some casual parties for the Group to socialize and
get to know each other. I am going to make it one of my goals for next
season to try to do something for the workers at each event. I can't think
of any racers in our group that would not agree with this idea. I would
encourage other Groups to think about some form or worker appreciation as
well.
Just because the sanctioning body and the event organizers don't treat
workers right does not mean we can't take it upon ourselves to show them that
we appreciate what they do.
