Old VW's of the pre-1973 variety would be welcome at CVAR events so long as
they were in proper period trim (i.e. no 2000cc engines, 5-speeds, fiberglass
panels, etc.). Should be prepared to 1972 or earlier SCCA sedan regs for bugs
(B or C-sedan). Karman-Ghias were run in American and European amateur
events, but it would be the responsibility of the entrant to provide period
specs that could be verified. Some VW-based kit cars were also run in small
numbers (Alken, Devin, etc.) and would be required to have period speed
equipment (Okrasa, etc.). The trouble with VW's is that there are lots of
current go-fast goodies that ARE NOT legal in vintage racing (well, in REAL
vintage racing anyway) and a prospective entrant should check with their
local club before stocking up on speed parts.
