The neck collar material can also be shaved down in the chin area to fit a
reclining position. Remember that the collar mainly supports the helmet and
provides some cushioning for the helmet rocking in an impact much like the
limited
effect of the roll bar padding. By the way, has everyone replace their roll bar
padding material with the latest stuff?:hard styrofoam, molded into a curved
form.
That soft stuff that squeezes between your fingers is for show only.

The HANS device?? My opinion is that I'll get one. I think everyone else needs
to
also. Just like the fully enclosed helmet. I've been trying to find the
manufacturer for some time now http://www.hansdevice.com/ and finally did so 3
days before Daytona. I'd mentioned to my wife that I wanted one of them. When
she
heard later about Earnhardt, she asked when was I getting mine!!

FYI the human brain has to be subjected to a 90(ninety) g force (yes, that's
faster than anyone's car can turn a corner) before a "concussion" is received. I
see these injuries on the local high school football field! The neck collar will
not protect against this type of injury. The HANS device helps prevent the neck
from being stretched lengthwise, which in turn can tear the vital nervous
system.
Now if I can only get a franchise for the thing....

Yes, this is my personal NOT professional opinion (sigh, yes, for the concerned
attnys out there who don't want me sued)
