evry chance i get at shows and events i try to offer parents walking around
with childern an opertunity to sit in a "real race car". some take photos
and some just saythanks and goon their way. but my most exciting
experience was at my son's preschool class for parents ocupation day. i
trailered the h-mod car there and was asked to put on my nomex sweat suit
on. i had a brief talk with the kids about safety and why it was
importaint to use their seat belts in their mommy and daddy's cars. they
all had a chance to try on my helmet in class. them we went outside and i
showed them the car and offered all of them a chance to sit in the car!
they got inline and all but 2 tried their best to saw away at the steering
wheel and peer over the front of the car from the seat. at day's end i had
a few parents really interested and was thanked by the class and a few
parents too.
who knows what kind of inspiration i may have sparked by this event.
hopefully one of the children might try some form of motor sports? at least
i would like to think that i may be making a difrence for the future.
my son is 5. he is very sensitive to the sounds here when i'm running a
race car's engine. he tells me it hurts his ears and heads in the house
untill i'm finished. my wife is not interested in going to the races (i'm
not forbid from going , she just has no real interest in being there
herself). without her there to watch our son i am not ready to take him to
a race with me. but as of last fall he has asked "daddy when can i go to
the races with you?". he does enjoy watching speedvision and my videos
from racing weekends. when he is ready to listen to my warnings and heed
them, i am more than willing to take him along. but for his safety's sake
he is to stay home untill then.

chuck.
